Membership in buildingSMART International is now open to companies, government bodies and institutions from around the world.
We invite all those organizations who share our goals and ambitions to transform the building and infrastructure industry to join our Community and participate in the creation and implementation of international openBIM Standards.
buildingSMART provides an environment where parties who share our goals and ambitions for open BIM can join together for the co-development and implementation of International Standards and compliance regimes.
Membership is expected to be a two way process. Members benefit from the collective activities of other members locally and internationally. Members are therefore expected to play an active role not only in identifying issues but also the development of solutions.
BuildingSMART is a not for profit organization and does not therefore have funds of its own to set up and run independent projects. Projects are therefore co-developed with members of all types.
Membership Types and Benefits
Strategic membership is our most senior form of organizational membership. It is designed to appeal to those leading multinational enterprises who believe that full implementation and adoption of open BIM is strategically important to the built environment sector and to their own enterprise and wish to play a strategic role in driving forward its implementation.
Strategic members form our Strategic Advisory Council (SAC) and have a direct role in shaping our strategy and helping to determine priorities and focus. They have a formal role in semi-annual meetings to advise the Board of buildingSMART International on our standards and compliance programs, managing our position in the industry, gaining engagement for standards development and deployment and on our international chapter strategy.
Strategic members will participate actively in our Standards program and in our Chapters. Key benefits include membership of our Strategic Advisory Council, full voting membership rights on the Standards Committee and membership rights in up to five buildingSMART chapters. Strategic members or their representative will also be entitled to participate in room steering committees.
The Strategic Advisory Council is expected to comprise 12 to 15 senior representatives of member organizations. We invite participation from multinational corporations representing owners, contractors, manufacturers, software vendors, operators and consultants and representing corporations operating in world wide. Senior government representatives will be invited as guests.
Membership fees are €100,000 per annum. These funds will be used to support the leadership team and establishment costs to transition buildingSMART to a professional organization.
