buildingSMART International is launching a new specialist forum, known as a Room , for developing and deploying open digital standards specifically for use during the construction phase. Kajima Corporation, one of our Strategic members, are taking the lead in developing this and we invite all construction companies to join with this initiative.

hardhatThe initial focus of the Construction Room is to evaluate site productivity improvements through the use of BIM and the application of IFC open data exchange standards.

We wish to engage with players in the Construction industry to gather their experiences and use cases and prepare a road map to improve productivity through the development of further open data exchange standards.

The standards created through the Construction Room will be adopted by industry and available for software implementation by Software Vendors.

The themes covered in the Room’s scope will include:

Productivity of BIM projects focusing on management and collaboration tools

Applied BIM

Data linkage with non-BIM software

Internet of Things (IoT)

Artificial Intelligence

Production System

Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) / Lean construction, which enables holistic design of the facility at an early stage

Building automation

At this stage we ask companies to express their interest in contributing their requirements and use cases in order to scope out the workplan.

We will be launching the Construction Room at our next Summit in Korea 25 – 28 September.

Following the launch we will be holding on line meetings and further in person meetings in Barcelona, April 2017.

We invite all interested parties to contact us for further details.
